Hatha Yoga at The Movement Center
The Movement Center is the hatha yoga studio of Nityananda Institute, a nonprofit center for spiritual practice and meditation. Our approach to hatha yoga has its roots in the Trika Yoga tradition practiced at the Institute. The aim of Trika Yoga is to enable each person to experience that part of themselves that is boundless and joyful, a state of Total Well Being. This state is present and accessible to everyone; it is the ultimate source of health in our bodies, happiness, and a creative, full experiential life. Finding this state opens a range of expression for us beyond the usual experience of stress and compression. Hatha Yoga classes at The Movement Center help us access Total Well Being by focusing our awareness on the breath and energy of each asana (yoga pose) to release tensions and increase the flow of the creative energy that resides within us. Classes incorporate pranayama (focused breath work) and close with a period of integrative deep relaxation."There is a different style of yoga for everyone. Each individual has a unique set of strengths and limitations, and requires a different style according to their physiological and metabolic needs. It’s not a person’s mindset, but their chemistry and to some degree their structure that defines their style. An effective yoga practice should give each person enough information that they can create their own style."
