200-HOUR HATHA YOGA TEACHER TRAINING
October 2010 - May 2011
Welcome
We are honored that you are considering our 200-hour hatha yoga teacher training. Whether you're working toward a deeper understanding of your practice and/or aspire to teach yoga, we have the experience and expertise to facilitate your growth.Choosing a life of service
The ancient teachings and tools of yoga, simple and accessible, are desperately needed in today's fragile world. Our teacher training will open your mind and heart to the potential you have for serving others through yoga, wheather at the grass roots level or beyond. What’s special about our teacher training?
The Movement Center hatha yoga is a living, evolving practice based on the non-dualistic tradition of Kashmir Shaivism. Recognizing that each person is a unique expression of the Divine, it follows that there is a unique yoga practice for everyone. That understanding is the heart of our teacher training. One of the challenges of teaching a yoga class is learning to relate to each person even as you keep the group dynamic centered and flowing. We will teach you how to really “look” at the people you teach with an eye for what they need to make their practice functional and help them discover their own style. You’ll gain confidence to create class plans, stand up in front of a classroom, and deliver a practice that exceeds your student’s expectations.
We are interested in continuing to learn and grow as people and teachers through collaboration, community, and ongoing education. After the training is finished we welcome your continued participation in continuing education courses and other programs at The Movement Center.
About The Movement Center
The Movement Center is a sanctuary for spiritual practice in the tantric tradition. Founded by Swami Chetanananda in 1971, we are based in Portland, Oregon, and have meditation centers in Santa Monica, New York City, Boston, and Seattle, and a retreat and research center in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Movement Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
The core of the meditation and hatha yoga at The Movement Center is a Kundalini Yoga practice derived from the nondualistic philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism. As a tantric practice, it is about the power of personal transformation. Kundalini Yoga at The Movement Center focuses on the release of tension to promote the flow of creative energy in all dimensions of life. Hatha yoga emphasizes skillful use of asana integrated with breath and awareness to support each individual’s transformation.
Our spiritual lineage springs from Bhagavan Nityananda, a great mahasiddha who lived in Ganeshpuri, India, and his student, Swami Rudrananda, one of the first Americans to bring eastern spirituality to this country. Swami Chetanananda is the current lineage holder and the spiritual director of The Movement Center.
