I teach “Seniors Only,” a yoga class designed for individuals 62 years and up. Traditionally yoga was taught to students individually by a teacher. In “Senior’s Only” yoga we use that same approach because older bodies have such unique histories and patterns. I work to help students improve proprioceptive balance which is of major importance in preventing serious injury from falls. Because the rhythm underlying and empowering everything in yoga is the breath, its awareness and control is a vital part of each class.
The practice of yoga with an aging body (mine) has fascinated me since I attended my first class at age 72. “I went into that first class surrounded by much, much younger people, not knowing how “good” I would or could be. I soon discovered that achieving some ideal pose is not the point at all. Movement powered by breath and increased inner awareness is the beating heart of yoga.”
Join me for “Seniors Only Yoga” Monday or Friday 9:30-11:00AM, or Continuing Practice on Tuesdays, 7:00-8:15AM.
